Volunteering

We are a small family-run vineyard and are always grateful for volunteers.
If you would like to learn more about the grape growing process and get involved, why not sign up to volunteer.

Harvest volunteering

You can volunteer to get involved any time of the year, but our busines time is grape harvest, which usually takes place late September - October (sometimes even into November).

Volunteering during February - August
During February and March the vines need pruning ready for summer growth. Between March and April weeding and general maintenance work is undertaken around the vineyard and from June onwards we need help thinning and tucking in the vines.

Volunteering to Harvest
The grape harvest usually starts in late September and can continue through until November. Harvesting involves picking the grapes ready for the wine making process.

The work is satisfying and for those who enjoy the outdoors there is nothing nicer than working on the Vineyard on a sunny day. If you have an interest in wine and wine making, what better way to understand how the process begins than on the vineyard where the grapes are grown. It's a social affair, you’ll meet other like-minded people and as a reward for your efforts you can enjoy a complementary glass of wine and a hearty lunch made from locally sourced produce. Tea/coffee and cake breaks are also provided throughout the day!

Approaching harvest we check sugar levels daily to plan the optimum time to pick. Once we have dates in place we will email everyone who’s signed up inviting them to join our harvesting days.

Your confirmation is vital if you wish to be involved. This will allow us to keep track of the numbers and ensure we have enough equipment and, most importantly, refreshments and lunch!

Information for Volunteers

Picking will commence at 8am in the vineyard and continue until a mid-morning coffee break. After a refreshing break, we will resume picking until lunchtime, where you will be rewarded for your hard work with a hearty meal. In the afternoon, we will carry on until approximately 3:30 - 4pm, concluding the day with tea and cake.

Please wear sensible shoes or wellies and comfortable clothing. If you have gloves, it would be greatly appreciated if you could bring them along.

Please be aware that the schedule is weather-dependent. If heavy rain is forecasted, please contact us at 01588 620627 before your arrival, as we may decide to postpone.
